Pet Food Needs

Do you know what your pet food needs to proved a healthy happy pet?

Assuming that your pet has not mastered the art of ordering food from your local cafe, it is you responsibility to ensure that its food meets all their nutritional requirements and pet food needs. This is sometimes easier said than done as it is important to know what a specific breed or dog needs. Similar to us humans there is a big difference between dog’s physical appetites taking in to consideration their age, size, level of activities and so on. The fundamental need of each pet is eating a balanced meal to give them fitting measures of nutrients and energy.  Again, like humans, pets also need the basic six elements for gaining optimal health, which are protein, vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates and water. To fully understand the best sources and the breakdown of the above elements I’m going to briefly explain what they are responsible for.

Protein

So firstly we will look at protein, protein consumption can become the biggest source of eating good amounts of healthy calories. This will play a vital role for your pets’ health since it is responsible for the growth and also repair of tissues; meat and fish seem to be the most favoured sources since they can supply a much needed concentrated source of protein.

Vitamins and Minerals

There are 2 different types of vitamins, Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluble. Water soluble ones comprising all of the complex vitamins B and C must be taken and replaced regularly. Minerals are also very important for bone and teeth health and development, as a result it is essential that they have good levels of calcium and phosphorous in their daily diet.

Fats

Fats can sometimes get a bad press and at times, rightly so, but it is important to differentiate between the good fats and bad fats. Natural fatty acids are essential for pets to help maintain healthy, resistant skin and hair, we all want our pets to have healthy skin and coat don’t we. Fats also play a taste role as they are great to add texture and flavour to our pets meals.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates, like fats, are necessary as in the past dogs and cats would have eaten everything that was inside their prey, so now our pets still need them through eating vegetables, fruits and sometimes rice.

Water

Lastly, and this really goes without saying, ensuring fresh water is available to your pets at all times is vital for their health as it is necessary to transport waste and nutrients through their bodies.
